Kyla decided she needed to stop fantasizing about Jericho. That was all there was to it.

Last night, after he’d gotten back, he’d apologized, and they’d snuggled it out. It felt like it had been ages since she’d snuggled with anyone. Her past boyfriends hadn’t really been big snugglers. Into sex, hell yeah, but the aftermath was not really companionable. Since she was “one of the guys” in so many ways, they figured she’d be “tough” enough to avoid the touchy-feely side of a relationship. They’d go back to watching football or playing video games or just roll over and start snoozing. Kyla had grown up a tomboy, and that this hadn’t bothered her for a long time. Now that she was indulging more of her “girly” side with the cosplay, she realized that she didn’t have to be quite so rigid in her gender interpretation. She could like wielding a sword and enjoying a good grapefruit-scented bath bomb. She could wear high heels or hiking boots. As her friend Mallory would say, women weren’t just binary — you didn’t have to be one thing or another.

Too bad she couldn’t say the same about her relationship with Jericho.

You can be his friend. That’s pretty much the only option there.

That said, there was a moment where she could’ve sworn she’d felt and heard his heartbeat speed up beneath her cheek. His muscles had flexed beneath her palm. She sneaked the teeniest, tiniest kiss on his chest. Then maybe, just maybe, plastered herself against him.

Then he’d leaped out of bed like his hair was on fire, insisting he had to take a shower that second.

She prayed that she hadn’t made him uncomfortable. Of course, she’d listened to him take a long shower (and, yeeeeah, fantasized a hell of a lot about what that might look like), then he’d climbed in, said a quick “g’night,” and started sleeping with his back to her. Although honestly, he’d still seemed kind of tense, and the way he was breathing sounded like he might’ve been faking it.

Of course, she’d been exhausted, so she’d gotten to sleep not too long after that, but it did puzzle her… until she remembered. He probably didn’t want her getting ideas. He had to know about her crush on him when she was younger, and there she was, draped over him like a poncho. It was probably his gentle way of giving them some distance.

She sighed. She really, really needed to get better about that. It was unfair to him, and painful for her. They could joke like always, but she had to keep her hormones on lockdown before anything else bad happened.

By late morning, she stretched and then did a full-on dance in her living room. “Woot!” she shouted, shuffling and swinging, doing the Sprinkler and the Washing Machine and every other dorktastic dance she could think of. “Who’s the sewing boss? I am the fucking sewing boss!”

She had finished up the costumes. She had Liliana done, complete with props.
